SE LONDON MICROPUB TRIP - 15th March 2025, starting at noon.
For all those coming from Maidenhead/Windsor I recommend that you catch the Lizzie line to Bond Street, then change to the Jubilee to London Bridge. Here you can catch a Southeastern train to Eltham. Note at London Bridge follow the the British Rail train signs through the shopping arcade, like a crypt, to a row of escalators taking you up to the platforms. When I did my DRY RUN trains were leaving from both platforms 1 & 6. I have narrowed it down to 5 micropubs, all GBG 2025 except the last one.
Long Pond - 110 Westmount Road, Eltham, SE9 1UT - 6 real ales inc. Stout, BB, Pale & Barley wine & Dudda’s Tun & locally made Eltham Gold cider. They do pork pies & ploughmans if you forgot breakfast.
It is a 10min walk and the quiet easy route, instead of walking alongside the A2, is come out of the station turn right under the railway and then 1st right down Dunvegan Rd. When you reach Westmount Rd turn right & the the Long Pond is virtually on the opposite corner. I shall aim to get there as close to noon as the trains allow and will leave at 1.15pm to catch the B16 bus opposite the Long Pond to the Door Hinge, Welling approx. 30mins.
The Door Hinge Ale House - 11 Welling High St, Welling DA16 1TR - 3 real ales one Pale/BB/Stout & Dudda’s Tun cider.
The B16 bus goes along Welling High St and the stop you want is Guy, Earl of Warwick. We will pass near to the Bolthole micropub (NOT GBG) at 12 Falconwood Parade, Welling DA16 2PL, but it doesn’t open until 2pm and only serves Harvey’s BB & Hophead so I propose to miss this one out. I shall leave the Door Hinge at 2.45pm.
The Broken Drum - 308 Westwood Ln, Sidcup DA15 9PT - 3 real ales & cider from Kent producers.
You can walk to the Broken Drum, 21mins or walk 7mins to catch a 51 bus to Westwood Lane, almost outside the pub. Arriving 3.10 and leaving 4.15pm.
The Rusty Bucket Pub - 11 Court Yard, London SE9 5PR - 2 real ales. (Kent Quantum & Boltmaker when I visited) Cider is Dudda’s Tun. CARD ONLY.
Catch the 132 bus from around the corner in Blackfen Rd going to Eltham High St. Plassey Place. Don’t get off at the first Eltham High St. Stop. 12mins on the bus. Walk on towards the crossroads & TL & it’s on your left. Arrive 4.30pm and leave at 5.30pm.
Berry and Barrel - 18 Well Hall Parade, London SE9 6SP - 1 real ale when I visited (Bexley Bursted)
It is a 11min walk and you pass Eltham station (7min) if you want to bail out here.
