Being of thatched roof construction, this Grade II listed public house has had more than its fair share of catastrophic fires in recent times. It dates back to the 12th century, becoming a wayside public house in 1625, when owned by the monks of Reading Abbey. Refurbished in October 2017, it offers well-kept ales alongside good food in a warm, cosy and inviting environment, the real fire being particularly welcoming on cold days but beware the 5' 8" headroom!
