See more about this pub on WhatPub, CAMRA's national pub guide.
There has been a pub on this site since the 1800s (when eels were fished in the nearby River Thames and brought to be sold in the pub). The current pub was built in 1916 and offers good food and ale; an extensive Chef and Brewer menu is available all day, with numerous specials on chalkboards and regular themed produce weeks. The spacious pub with a heated rear patio garden offers plenty of opportunity for a quiet drink or a big family meal. The guest ale changes weekly and is chosen from a variety of local and national breweries. Convenient for Caversham centre, it can get busy, but is surprisingly spacious inside. Level access from car park and terrace at rear.
